Coffee round up – American / Canadian edition

It’s no secret we are coffee lovers and often structure our free days around coffee shop visits. So when we crossed the USA & Canada from coast to coast we looked for unique independent coffee shops to sample. Ok, we confess there were some days of McDonald’s $1 coffee, especially on long driving days with no other options, but whenever we could we went for the decent stuff πŸ™‚

We’ve put together all awesome independent ones we enjoyed, listed by location if you find yourself in that neck of the woods:

CANADA

Nova Scotia
Fall River – Good Day Cafe
Just Us! coffee roasters – especially their Grand Pre location with a quirky veggie garden at the back

British Columbia
Vancouver – 49th Parallel Coffee – with incredible doughnuts too and I am not even a big doughnut fan
Vancouver – Revolver
Victoria – Hey Happy
Tofino – Tofitian Cafe –
in the same courtyard we absolutely recommend Tacofino for food
Rossland – Alpine Grind –
great coffee shop inΒ our favourite mountain town
Nelson – Oso Negro –
local independent coffee roasters based in Nelson, who sell their delicious coffee beans (our favourite) and have a cafe in town

USA

Vermont
Bellow Falls – Flat Iron Exchange – quirky cafe in a cute quirky small town

NYC – Stumptown Coffee Roasters – this does not need an introduction, cold brew was delicious

Tennessee
Nashville – Barista Parlor – serious hipster vibes in this former car workshop turned coffee shop. As seen on the show Nashville which we randomly starred in as extras!
Nashville – Steadfast coffee –
some of the most delicious cold coffee drinks we’ve ever had, especially orange coffee soda
Nashville – Frothy MonkeyΒ

West Virginia
Fayetteville – Cathedral Cafe and Book Store – super quirky cafe in an old church with a book shop!

Missouri
Kansas city – Hammerhand Coffee

Colorado
Boulder – Boxcar Coffee Roasters
Lyons – Barking Dog Cafe

New Mexico
Santa Fe – Iconik coffee roasters

Utah
Springdale in Zion National Park – Deep Creek Coffee Company – this is our favourite type of the coffee shop, small, cozy, colourful, full of character but not too fussy, where hikers pick up their morning brew, oh and stunning views all round

California
Carpinteria – Lucky Llama Coffee House – our favourite little beach town in California
Hopland – Steep – this was a great accidental find in North Cali
