Home is Where You Park It

Meet Daisy, our maid of honor at our wedding, our hayburner and our adventure vessel! She is a 1973 Vw Baywindow camper who has been in our lives since April.

For a while now we have wanted to take a trip to the USA, to roadtrip, explore nature and get lost. Our initial plan was to buy a VW camper stateside, to search out a vehicle that was fully sorted and tailor made to our needs. We knew it was a tall order and that any vehicle we bought would need modifying, plus importing back to the UK is a little complicated. So one sunny day in April those plans got turned on their head when we came across this yellow camper who Andrea named Daisy within 5 seconds of first seeing her….. 10 seconds later we knew we’d be taking her home.

Since getting her home we have been busy realising just how much work we need to do on her, the good thing is she is solid and rust free but has only been driven 5000 miles in the last 8 years so needs some TLC.

Michael has rebuilt the top half of the engine as she had low compression on one cylinder, replaced cylinder heads, barrels and pistons, the CV joints were replaced, all cables, and then the poorly wired stereo was removed along with about 3 miles of cables.

She made it (just) to our wedding on 1/2 throttle, was our maid of honor and center piece being our wedding car that we drove in and slept in! She also had a splitscreen buddy to keep her company for the day.

We will be sharing our adventures with her (including restoration upgrades) which will lead to a big trip to the USA….yes we are going to ship her and have a big adventure….details soon!
