A number of years ago I dusted off my Nikon FE, purchased a cheap generic film and went for a photowalk. It had been a long time since I shot film, mainly having used it at school and developing labs on work experience. Being honest when I received the results I was disappointed and wondered why anyone still shot film. I mistakenly thought that my camera was dated and couldn’t get close to the quality of my digital camera’s. That was until I noticed the lab I used provided me with a feedback form, and gave me pointers to help me improve….. this was was the start of my re-discovery of film.

A few weeks later I headed on a short trip to Germany and thought I’d give it another go, taking in to account the feedback I had received. The results blew my mind (see image below of our beautiful friend Maggie!) and since then I have learnt so much and produced images that stir my soul with creamy colours, beautiful bokeh and sublime skin tones.

Run by a lovely couple Christian and Erica I can’t express enough how helpful, friendly and professional they are. Being film photographers themselves the lab was born out of a need for a quality professional film lab in today’s digital age, something they didn’t feel existed to their standards in the UK.

The professional standard and drive for perfection is clear in the results these guys produce day in day out. If you have an old film camera laying around or feel like trying film for the first time it I urge you to go for it! Having Christian and Erica on hand to help for me has not only opened up a new side to my photography it has improved my techniques and vision whether I’m shooting film or digital.

I urge every photographer to shoot film, trust me you will be hooked. And what better way than to get your film processed by people who are as passionate about it as you are?! You know it makes sense!
