Our first taste of Canada – Nova Scotia

Our big North American roadtrip started on the east coast of Canada in Nova Scotia. Even though we ached to explore the West, we chose Nova Scotia so we could spend time with the family who moved there a few years ago and for a few very practical reasons, it was more cost effective and easier to ship our VW bus from England to Halifax. We didn’t do much research about this part of the world, but we were surprised how much we loved it.

Late September / early October was such a good time of the year to visit, vivid autumn colours like we have never seen before, pumpkin and apple picking season and warm sunny days. While we waited for our bus to arrive we visited Peggy’s Cove, a charming although super touristy fishing village, pumpkin and apple farms, a great coffee shop and roastery Just Us (with an organic farm in their backyard) and downtown Halifax. We stayed with the family in Fall River and spent a few sunny afternoons in Good Day Cafe’s courtyard. For the full Canadian welcome we went to see an ice hockey game and had our fair share of Tim Hortons 🙂

After the fantastic time with the family we hit the road to New Brunswick and Maine.
